Response to ATDPTI

This book is a book that I expected to be interesting, and it has been interesting. One thing that I did not expect though was that I would enjoy it. I have found myself willingly reading ahead and almost feel like I'm cheating by calling it homework. This is not the type of book for someone who is easily offended or grossed out. I find this book highly humorous, especially for people who appreciate some dry humor.

One thing that I have noticed makes this book interesting is the style. Many pictures are included and the first person point of view really adds some life to the novel. The word choice makes for a book that is easy to understand. Although this book seems to be somewhat lighthearted and silly, it really shows the history of our country in an interesting way.

    I completely agree. I have read far ahead on this book and am actually enjoying it. I also agree that the funny comments and pictures give this book personality and character.

Reading Response to The Firm

I have covered a lot of new information in The Firm.  Mitch has started working and works 100 hour weeks! He has passed the bar exam with the highest score. He seems to be doing extremely well at the firm, but then something strange happens. While he is eating lunch by himself, an FBI agent approaches him and tells him some veery strange stuff about the firm. He reports this to Lamar Quin and Lamar reports it to the higher ups. They explain to Mitch that this is not true. There is an example of dramatic irony in this book. As a reader I know that this stuff is true because there have been scenes proving it true. Mitch looks very naive to me because I know this. Grisham does a very good job chapter to chapter in this book. He will say something at the end that makes you want to read more into the next chapter. My reaction to the portion that I read this week could be described as disgusted. Respond to passage from LOTF pg 143

On page 143, Simon is talked to by the Lord of the Flies. The lord of the flies is really just a dead pig head. It is very debatable whether this is a hallucination on Simon's part or real. I believe that it is real in this story because it is symbolism of Simon as a Jesus-like figure. The lord of the flies says stuff like,"I'm warning you, I'm going to get angry." He has a bad temper and is very symbolic of Satan tempting Jesus. Another thing he says is "I'm the reason why it's no go." This shows that the beast has been interacting in the island all along. This gives us a lot of insight to Jack and the others' motives. This shows us that Satan may be acting on their behalf. Even if this is a hallucination, it is still very important to the story.
